nicely said Mistletoe! i guess i am just upset at being taken for granted. it does not take much for me to go the extra mile for something i really enjoy, like sl. but all of these little things take their toll. the OS debacle could have been handled so much better if someone would have just said "we goofed". but to say that the OS were not used as intended is only partly correct. they were overused, but if that was the case, reduce the agents, say they are not for rental use, but don't go from 3750 to 750 prims.

back to your point, it will have a slight effect on private estates, I have 12 sims and it ripples down, even if just a little :(

i agree that the forums are likely a farce. M reacted to a poor customer service rant I posted on his blog, and he mobilized George and another person, but after all the dust settled, it's no further along than before the blog post

i hate to think of LL resting on their laurels when we all know that SL could be "THE" 3D part of the web, just like the flash player is. guess that is why this becomes such an emotional issue (as Mo said: drama, cuz when girls get passionate about something it's called "drama") because it can be so much more than it is now. if SL was just crap, no one would care, but that's not the case. people like Lindall care a lot about it

"Gives a new meaning to spreading the seed!"
I think that's still the old meaning ;)

I think Lindall has every right to be upset and disillusioned and want to leave. I find myself thinking about it myself, even though my home sim is an estate sim and not mainland and this decision won't affect my home sim in any way.

What annoys me isn't so much that they make a priority of the mythical "freedom from being offended" over any other freedom of expression; it's that once again they've made up their mind, aren't telling us the real reason why, and ultimately it costs residents more money. The 'discussion' on the forums is a farce. They're not listening to our input, they're just trying to make the more gullible of us think that what we have to say matters to them. It doesn't. It didn't with OpenSpace, and it doesn't now.

lol on the oak tree Ener! =D Yes indeed, I have fallen into the illicit side of plant sex and procreation! I often purchase the reddest strawberries, tomatoes, and apples I can find. Those plants and their strategies of survival! Gives a new meaning to spreading the seed!

I can't help to think that the ability to have sex in Second Life is not a key part to it's success over other virtual worlds. And, as the Second Life blog said, it's a very small percentage of the virtual world.

I have never accidentally bumped into anything that I could not deal with. So why is there the need for Linden to act on my behalf? Say I was walking down the street and was faced with some outrageous sex something or other. I have the ability to turn around, teleport, log off, and so on.

But it is their virtual world and not ours, we are merely users of it and can either take it or leave it.

But I must say the the statement "Sex didn’t make nor will it break Second Life." is very confident. How can we know the future and this impact?

After all, that statement can not be applied to the real world and maybe Second Life succeeds due to it's similarities. Or else why even bother with avatar configurations, give me my Communist blue uniform and let's get on with it! =)

Well, overreaction or not, it still makes a point about choking creativity to an extent. Sex is a huge driver of anything done on this planet. Not saying it is "the" driver. Even trees kill competing saplings in their quest to procreate (oak trees make the ground around them so acidic that other plants can't grow).

The bigger point is not the sex, but the loss of a voice for SL in general. The move of adult content sounds okay to me, but it will have an effect on the community. I am not into gambling but when the casinos closed it hurt other businesses. The "sex" part of this is intertwined with business in general and even a person like me will be affected. I have no sex stuff (lol, I probably have the only mattress in sl that does not have sex poses - check it out, it's in my home in enercity park) but this change will affect my business as a land owner to some degree.

I am just recovering from the OS debacle. That dealt a huge blow to business and has cost me a few thousand. It is not my place to judge, someone from way above me set that example. And significant "players" have shaped sl drastically. I am thinking of Anshe Chung who has helped form SL into what it is now. And she started as an "escort". I can't be down on her anymore than that historic fellow was with his gf.

While I personally don't care much what Linden Lab does with adult content because I understand that it is part of the world, I do care about the frustration expressed by a very wonderful and giving person. And mourn the loss of a wonderful mentor.

I also applaud you for speaking your view on this and would love to have a fuller picture of your view of SL these days. It is in Gartner's Trough of Disillusionment at the moment but is growing through that. With its use in IBM's Lotus Notes, it is positioned well (I see you do stuff with IBM).

Perhaps Linden Lab does not care about the individual and caters to the large corporations, it's a shame, I think they could cater to both. You've probably seen my whining on this. On how a nearly $3000 a month subscription can't get answers to a few simple emails, whereas Ning answers me in 24 hours and I pay them nothing. It's really odd, I think of all the business my 80 residents must consume and generate (none of which is adult oriented as far as I know, but it's not my place to pry).

Thank you for posting and I sure would love more from your perspective (which is unique and very knowledgable since you are one of the few that contribute back to the community with your video tutorials).
