New SL Gateways

One of the greatest things that sl has going is the collaboration between residents.  prob the biggest reason we are in sl (to the tune of like several thousand USD a month).  that’s a serious proof of our commitment to sl and our belief that it is the best metaverse.

so then, why do the blog posts, that went from allowing commenting to having a forum thread for discussion, now go to no feedback at all.

case in point here.  this is really positive stuff and a great addition to sl, would be nice to be able to praise them (lol, rather than our typical defense stance on the bad news).

oh well, our two cents (m aybe it’s 4 cents since it’s two of us)  =D

They seem to pick and choose which posts to start threads about. And of course, you need to have a premium account to comment there. So…yeah. :-\

Yeah… i would have left some praise… I am interested to see what they post next about making new gateways, perhaps i would like to construct one….. alas they only allow trackbacks these days it seems.

Learn something new everyday, I did not think about the fact that you must be premium to hit the forums. Great point!

    Hi, Catherine Linden here.

Just wanted to clear up the misconception that you have to be a premium member of Second Life to post in the forums. You just have to be a member of Second Life and you need to sign in with your SL name and password. That’s all.

Thanks for picking up the story about Community Gateways…

w00t!!! thank you Catherine for the update! you are indeed correct, just being a member is sufficient. i gladly pay my yearly dues and it’s a pretty good deal with the allowance (i actually think it should cost more or have some base level inventory that if you go above it you pay more)

thank you so much for posting here, it’s an honour to hear from you. but then i imagine that Linden Labs knows i am a major evangelist (lol, still tiny in Torley’s shadow) even though, at times, i may gripe a bit. =)

The community gateways are an excellent idea. Three weeks back we spoke with Betsy and Adam on corporate issues. And a consortia of corporations would help them get into SL without as stringent a need to show ROI. That was an issue I faced as well.

I find it strange that there is such skepticism out there. Clearly all corporations will have some metaverse presence. Whether it is Second Life or their own sims running on their servers (which may be Second Life as well). All corporations will have some 3D representation.

The ROI is comparable to a website, in my opinion. Many companies have websites that are cost centres, not profit centres and the same will be true for metaverses. They will simply be expected by the public.

That’s good to know. It gets confusing (obviously) remembering which parts of the website are segregated, since it’s transparent to me.
